ART x MEDIA / NA LIFE
DISNEY TEMPLATES IN MOTION

I’ve always admired Disney’s Movie Artists and their artistic ability. There’s something incredibly unique and classic about the Disney “style.” When I was in college I had contemplated pursuing a career as a Disney artist. For lack of maturity and money I didn’t follow through. It takes special schooling to learn the “Disney way” and I guess in the end it just wasn’t meant to be. I don’t believe it’s ever too late though.

There was one other thing that changed my path. You see, I’ve always loved traditional art and comic books. I believe that at the time the college I was attending had just started a Digital Design program and there was this new thing called Adobe Photoshop. You wouldn’t know it now, but at one time Adobe Photoshop wasn’t a known name. I enrolled not even knowing what to do with the computer. My backup disc was a Syquest drive at 105 MB. Groundbreaking at the time, but obsolete by todays standards. Hell, the ad files I work on sometimes reach 1 GB or more.

Anyways, that was pretty off topic. Like I was saying, I’ve always admired Disney artists. The Disney video I’ve included in the post sheds some light and in a way ends some of the mystique that I’ve always felt about the artists abilities. Don’t get me wrong I still admire the artists, but I’m just a tiny bit less impressed with Disney animated movies. You’ll see from the video how Disney just reuses scenarios and templates to recreate sequences. Just watch it.
