So I got asked by the company I do work for to create an advertisement that would run in the local newspaper. It was both an announcement as well as a celebratory piece commemorating 20 years of being in business. I thought that was pretty cool of them to ask me seeing as I’ve been here only 3 years (2 in production and 1 as a jr. designer), which at an ad agency is equivalent to rookie status. It may have been proper protocol to ask one of the senior designers to create something and I can see why there was some uncertainty with what I could come up with. A little doubt from your senior peers is ok, because I feel like it forces you to “prove yourself” in some ways.
A little bit of pressure is always a good thing. If you don’t get the San Jose Mercury Newspaper (I know, “What’s a newspaper?”), then you may have missed the ad I created, so here it is…
San Jose Mercury Newspaper / 07.13.09 / 10.5″ x 21″

It’s all in the details:

UPDATE So I just saw this in the conference room. It looks like they’re having the whole company sign it and giving it to the president as a gift at the 20th Anniversary party this Friday. SWEET!:

The question that keeps floating around the agency…
“Did he really create that?”
The answer will always be…yes.
