Who doesn’t love the cartoon bomb? It’s simple and destructive in it’s design. I remember laughing at afternoon cartoons whenever a cartoon bomb would blow up in an animated characters face. As kids we didn’t know why it was funny, but it just was. It’s true even to this day. The idea of the bomb even trickled into the imaginative “military bases” we created in our bedrooms from cardboard boxes draped with blankets and fortified by pillows and books. It didn’t matter how well you created your base, the ultimate neutralizer was to throw a bomb at your opponents base, thus giving us all the opportunity to give our own oscar winning “death by explosion” performances. Then we would fall down, laugh and do it all over again. Those days were so simple…
Fast forward 20 plus years later and I could never have imagined then what relevance a cartoon bomb would have for me. While working in graphic design for an advertising company I learned very quickly that it’s not necessarily the “over the top” designs and campaigns that win awards or client approval. More often than not it’s the simple, clearly defined message that creates the greatest impact. Those are the campaigns that you as a designer either create or envy—they are the ones that shake up a room of designers, define the careers of others and silently go “KABOOM!”
Enough of that, our “KABOOM!” figure is the fourth custom in our 12 figure custom urban series. If you are interested in adding this to your vinylmation collection then KABOOM! No. 1 it will be on eBay starting today. It will be limited to 20 with only 15 being made available for auction.
