So my cousin (aka Sleepyhead, aka Shoe, aka Yo Chrys!) completed her first marathon. It was the NIKE Women’s Marathon in SF held on Oct 19, 2008. She joined up with a Team in Training squad a couple of months ago and didn’t look back. Pink and I thought she was frickin’ crazy, I mean damn, we just ran the Disney Half Marathon in September. I guess all the training helped because she completed the race in 5hrs 48minutes. I don’t think she was in the elite class though because they finished at about 3hrs. She’s gonna need more training to do that. I also don’t think they stopped anywhere to take photos like she did. If you ask me, I think she should just ride a bike next time or at least hop on a cable car for a bit.
We found ourselves racing up to SF to catch her on route to completing the race. As expected a lot of the streets were blocked off around the course so we had to park about a mile away from the contact point/cheering spot her sister had designated. PINK and I ended up in our own race to catch her before she passed us up. It was ridiculous as we ran uphill part of the way. That’s some love yo, because it was cold, and we hadn’t stretched or eaten. We caught her just in time, although I think in her mind she was saying “Hurry the F*CK up, y’all wrecking my time!” Haha. Anyways, congrats again Sleepyhead.
