YAHOO YEP 2008

Despite all the bad press Yahoo! is getting right now, the company held its Annual Year End Party this past weekend. One would think that with the impending layoffs scheduled to happen this week that they would’ve called this off, saved money and keep people employed. Sounds simple, but the reality is that party’s like this are probably planned and paid for a year in advance and I don’t think any of the executives could have predicted that the economy would be in the current state that it’s in. In all honesty, I don’t think any company ever wants to lay-off people, especially not during the holidays. The League of Assassins motto from the movie Wanted comes into play for all companies experiencing layoffs right now, “Kill One, Save A Thousand”. It’s sad, but true and nobody ever wants to be that One. I do think however, that it would’ve been worse if there was no “Thank You” party and people just showed up this week to get laid off. If people are gonna go out then they might as well go out with a bang.
I have to admit that I did have fun at this party despite all the crap I just talked about. I figured the party could’ve been really lame and somber or people could’ve just said “fuck it” and shut down the open bar. I got to meet a bunch of PINKs coworkers and yo, they shut down the bar. A cool crowd that decided to have fun, get drank and dance until the records stopped spinnin’…
